Aloha! Is everybody in Hawaii OK?

Everytime we, here in Los Angeles, have a major earthquake, the T.V. News always says at first that there are no injuries nor deaths. After hours have passed we start hearing more and more reports of injuries and deaths.

  1. Right now the T.V.News is saying that there were no injuries nor deaths in Hawaii. Should I expect to hear of more an more reports of injury & death there too?
  2. I hope and pray that they are okay.
  3. we're okay. no one has died but the kailua kona hospital had to be evacuated and only one person needed to remain in the hospital there are no serious injuries I heard on the radio that some hiker was thrown off a cliff from the earhquake but I dont konw if thats true
  4. Is there anybody from Hawaii on here that can answer these questions?
  5. Nah, we're OK. The governor was on that side of Hawaii when it happened, and her TV fell to the floor in her hotel room. A hospital and some hotels near the epicenter had to be evacuated. Kona is a nice resort area, but it's not densely populated.

Then main inconvenience has been some two lane highways (that are nonetheless important to transportation for the people who live there) closed due to landslides and falling boulders on the islands of Hawaii and Maui. Lots of power outages on Oahu has been a real headache on a day with lots of rain, but power is gradually being restored over there, and the stores and gas stations are opening up.

It's a good reminder to me to work on my disaster plan and implement it.
