Earthquake in Hawaii?

hawaii hit by more than 20 earthquakes today, one lager than 6.5. Evacuations taking place now. Anyone feel it?

  1. Thanks for the heads up on this. Sorry to here it, but volcanic islands must have that stuff from time to time. Probably was a local event only.
  2. I felt it big time. My house is located 10 miles south of Kona (about 20 miles from the epicenter) and it was shaking really hard…60 seconds long, too. Yikes. Big 6.0 aftershock within 8 minutes of the quake. Luckily not too much damage at my house, but driving around this week, I've seen lots of huge boulders on the road and collapsed rock walls. I work part-time at a wine store in Kona, and we had a big mess on our hands on Sunday-lots of broken bottles, glass everywhere. But, as everyone has been saying, it could have been much worse. The news tonight reported that there have been 78 aftershocks above a 2.0 since Sunday (2 this morning-4.0 and 3.6).
  3. no I am in chicago
  4. Are you freakin serious? My dad is in Hawaii! Ive gotta check on him.
  5. I had no idea, thank you for posting this, my sister lives there. I am now on the phone with her… ty…. ty…
  6. Hawaii's been hit be alot worse, but I hope the dumass Dog the WWE Bounty Hunter fell in a ditch
  7. if I felt it here on the eas coast I'd be pretty scared the earth would be in trouble
  8. I did feel it, and the largest aftershock seven minutes later. In fact, I was reporting the original quake to the USGS when I felt the aftershock. I've been through small earthquakes in Taiwan before. I recognized this one immediately, though it was larger than any I've felt before. I reached out to grab my new flat screen monitor because it was shaking so hard I feared it would tip over.

I'm on the island of Molokai, between Oahu and Maui. Both of those islands have extensive power outages, but those on Oahu may be due to heavy rain. Here in Kaunakakai, the electricity flickered long enough to turn my computer off, but not my clock radio. It has stayed on the rest of the morning.

I'm reading reports of damage to large buildings such as hospitals and nursing homes on the Kona (or Kailua-Kona) side of the island of Hawaii. There have been some evacuations there, some to Kona Gym, so I guess that's OK. Landslides and fallen boulders have caused highways to be closed on Hawaii and on the south side of Maui. Honolulu airport (HNL) is closed because of power outages. Kahului airport (OGG), the largest on Maui, has sustained some damage.

  9. Yep I did. The building that I live in (it is a 35 story building) was shaking when I woke up this morning (pretty scary stuff to feel a 35 story building shake). But as far as I know, we don't have any major damage from what I can tell, we just had our power out here for about 7 hours here on the island of Oahu. But from what I read, the big island got it worse, I do not know how it is over there.
  10. I'm sorry. I hope everyone is ok.
  11. oh sure, I felt it in PA! *rolling my eyes*
  12. Wow - glad I went when I did. It would suck if it isn't there anymore. It's a pretty long swim to just about anywhere from there, and I don't think they have enough life boats . . .
  13. I hope they are all okay and able to manage without causing catastrophic impact on human lives. I just post a question about my thoughts on it earlier when I heard about the news but not to the point that they continuously getting hit by it.

hopefully it is just a results of developing new volcano not like other way off thoughts that is forming with in my own crazy mind.

I was thinking of the north korea tests, since hawaii is our first state located in the pacific ocean and where our most bases located at……
