Has anyone ever been to Hawaii? What's it like? what things can you do there?

  1. Additional Details
  2. You don't say which Island your going to so I will assume it is Oahu.
2 weeks just on Oahu isn't too long, although you may consider a trip for a couple of days to another Island.
Big Island, Maui, Kauai all have great things to do and see.
Here are a few links you can check for stuff to do.

    Aloha

  3. watch lilo and stitch.
  4. I so wanna go there too (:-(
  5. IS 2 weeks to long to spend in Hawaii or maybe 10 days would be sufficient, I only want to go for a relaxing, non strenuous holiday.
  6. I've been there twice and planning to go again. It's awesome! Two weeks is a minimum especially if you want to take it easy there. For first timers I would recommend Maui - snorkling, scuba, jet skiing, parasailing, bumming around on a beach, eucaliptus forest, driving through clouds on your way to a dormant volcano crater, nice restaurants, golf, and a variety of other activities. My favorite it the island of Hawaii - very laid back with fewer tourists than the other three major islands of Oahu, Maui and Kauai and has two distinctly different sides of the island: Hilo, lush with forestation and getting a lot of rain, and Kona, dry, rocky due to old lava flows and it also has an active volcano! For best food in my experience on Maui and Hawaii you have to go out of the main tourist path. If you're still asking yourself whether you should go to Hawaii, my recommendation to you would be - definitely go! I am sure you will want to go back there again!

  8. 5-10 days is Plenty! You could island hop, but I'd rather spend some time in LA on the way there. Maui has a pineapple winery, that's fun to visit and a black sand beach and you can watch the sun rise from Haleakala summit and the windsufers at Hookipa Beach….plus all the usual stuff such as Luau, snorkeling, helicopter tour and laying around at the beach. We had a condo at the Aston Kaanapali…that was fun, but 4 days was enough.
  9. I have been to the island of Oahu (Waikiki/Honolulu) six times and love it there! The longest that I have stayed there was 10 days, and to me, that went by way tooo fast!! I would say go for the two weeks and you will have time to spend at least a few days at two islands!
Relaxation and stress free !! That is Hawaii alright! As soon as I board the plane and I know it is bound for Hawaii I start to relax and take a deep breath!!
You can swim in the ocean, learn to surf, go around the island, rent a vehicle, hike Diamond Head (if you are into that), go to Blue Hawaii The Show (great Elvis impressionist) at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel.
Hawaii is nothing but beautiful!! Those tradewinds and listening to the ocean at night will lull you into a good night's sleep!! The rainbows are just stunning!!
  10. Hi, 2 weeks is fine but spend as little time in Waikiki or on Oahu as possible because its just not worth it compared to the other islands. Waikiki is like a posh Benidorm and oh so touristy. If you must stay on Oahu visit Hanauma Bay to swim with the fishes or Waimea beach park on the north of the Island. If you are interested in history go and visit the Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor then get off Oahu. If you check out the website for Aloha Airlines you will see you can get flights to the other islands for as little as $39 each way. The prettiest island by far is Kauai. If you have seen the opening credits to Jurrasic Park you will know what the Na pali cliffs look like and the beaches are stunning and also starred in many a film such as South Pacific. The big shock is the island has its own Grand Canyon, the Waimea Canyon is stunning and if you ever only take one helicopter ride in your life this is where to do it. Also a bog standard hotel room in Waikiki will cost about £700 to £800 p/w with no views or facilities for the same money you could get a 2 bedroom ocean front condo in Princeville or Hanelei on Kauai. Check out Kauaivacationresorts.com and pick up a bargain in a very peaceful and beautiful part of the world….Aloha!!!
  11. If you want to relax in Hawaii, then 2 weeks is not long enough. It all depends on what you intend on doing in Hawaii. Theres always the boat cruise which takes you from island to island. Or being that the tickets are cheap to travel interislands, you can just go island hopping. If you want to just relax, I would maybe stay away from oahu or maybe stay there for about 2-3 days tops. Camping is also another option if you like to rough it. And actually come to think about it, I rather camp all over the other islands, its much more relaxing that way. A group of 20 of us just came back from Kauai. We rented Jeep wranglers, 4 wheeled it to the beaches, and set up shop. That was fun, the people from the mainland never wanted to go back home. Next month we are going to do the same thing in Molokai, and the same people from the mainland are coming back with their friends. So it all depends on what you like to do. If you can, I'd stay 2 weeks here.
  12. hey!
I'm born and raised in hawaii
so I'd say if your going by your self then 2 weeks would probably be just right!
I just came home from hawaii and I think you should go to waimea bay if your going to o'ahu it's the best but b sure 2 go early cuz parking goes FAST!be there at about 8 30 tops
    Good luck!
  13. Been there twice and found the better of the 2 was Maui, laid back, not as many tourist traps as where Honolulu is, and you need a car. There are various climates on this small Island from desert to rain forest and 2 weeks is minimum. Spent almost a month there and would have liked to stay longer. Fortunately our rent was nil, as we had one of our children working there and had an apartment supplied by his company in Kehi. Best time to go is Jan - Mar.
    Good luck and enjoy.
  14. I'm actually from Hawaii. Now it all depends on what you want to do. There are numerous things you can do….

    1)Hike Diamond Head
    2)Take longboarding lessons in Waikiki
    3)Go parasailing
4)Go to the Swap Meet (Flea Market @ Aloha Stadium)
5)Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center (I recommend this one!)

Now, these are a few things to do on Oahu. Now if you plan to go for 2 weeks, I'd say that too long for one island. You can visit the other island since each island has something different to offer. Maui & Kauai are other islands I would recommend. The island of Hawaii (The Big Island) is very country like so if you like that you may enjoy that island as well. Maui is not as busy as Oahu, but it's not as slow or dead like Kauai or the Big Island.
