People from Hawaii….?

I think this only pertains to certain islands in Hawaii but I went to Hawaii for a vacation a week ago and noticed that they have and EXTREMELY difficult slang vocabulary. I desperatly tried to understand what they were saying but I just couldnt. So then I asked my stepmom because she had been to Hawaii before and said that the language was called Pidgin. An example of this is Ainokea (dont pronounce the first -a) or I dont care. So my question is… is there an easy way to learn Pidgin and be able to understand it?

  1. Just Google Hawaiian Pidgin — you'll find glossaries, no problem.
  2. NO! IT ISN'T A SLANG VOCABULARY! It is a language called Pidgin English, and it is the way they speak. It is normal, and is part of the island tradition and culture.
  3. hawaiian guys are hot. I love surfer boys…
  4. You get use to it if you stay out there awhile. It is really fast and they got a whole bunch of different words and sayings, but after a while you know what their saying. Like if I say " Howzit Cuz?'" I am actually saying "how is it going, cousin" asian people like to call each other sister or cousin and stuff like that
  5. Used to spend summers with my grandparents in Hawaii — there's an easy to use book (with pronunciation too!), "Pidgin to Da Max Hana Hou" that will help you "translate" into the mainland terms you're used to hearing. The book has the most commonly used phrases. You can get this book on Amazon, of course.
