My husband was diagnosed with a varicocele in his left testicle in December '05. In June '06 he went for surgery to tie off the veins. In January '07 we began TTC. He was never offered a follow up appointment or semen analysis at 3, 6, or 9 months post-op, only 12. This is due to his insurance. We live on the Big Island of Hawai'I and the only urologist in our area is 200 miles away, only reachable by airplane. Insurance WILL pay for the expenses, but it is a big hassle. In May '07 we went for his post-op u/s. They saw a great improvement in size, but would NOT do a semen analysis. We are both under 25, and I have no health problems besides chronic UTIS and irregular cycles [24-38 days], not a problem, I chart. We are in our 7th month of trying unsuccessfully. Have any of you [male or female] faced this challenge? What helped you conceive? We are adamant about trying to conceive without assistance. No IVF, IUI, clomid, none of that. Please leave any tips or advice.

1. Can you not go to your local GP to get a SA?

   My husband and I have been on the infertility track since DEC 04 and have gone through IVF, Clomid etc, etc as he suffers from a very low sperm count yet very high hormone levels saying he should have hundreds of million per day. *shrugs*

   I would definately ask for another SA. You need to know the morpholigy and motility of those boys as they need to reach the goal.

   I have nothing wrong with me. (Apart from carrying about 10kg more than I would like) Nothing to hinder conception though and the only thing we can think of is DH's workplace (He is a aluminum welder) causes greif in the sperm production.

   Sorry to highjack in this way..

   Ask for a New Semen analysis with the morpholigy/ motility count included. Even include some Zinc tablets for your husband as these can help sperm.

   DH and I are in our mid 20's and after all this we still have no baby to show unfortunately.

2. Not sure what TTC is…but I was 32 before..I had kids..We never used protection..I now have 2 kids and both were conceived after me and her had went out partying got drunk as hell and came home a had wild sex….
