Why is Hawaii included in the geographic region of the US?
Compared to the rest of the US, Hawaii has a very different location, climate, culture, and history. However, it is included in this Geographic region. Why do you think it is included here?
- It ISN'T in the same geographic region.
It's not even a contiguous part of North America.
It just happens to be a state in the United States, just like Alaska.
- manifest destiny… continent mentality.
in truth, the closest NATION is Tahiti (Polynesia) and Kiribati (Micronesia) is the closest TERRITORY; when the US annexed Hawai'I in 1898 after they overthrew the lawful sovereign Hawaiian Nation in 1893, the US could care less about geography; all they care about is tourism $$$ and previously sugar/pineapple $$$.
here's a basic map of Oceania: http://www.spc.int/prism/country/pw/stat…
- Hawaii played an exteremely important role during WWII in the Pacific. It's a very strategic location for the US to have bases and a military presence.
The second reason is that the inhabitants of Hawaii wanted to be a US state! They petitioned congress to change their status from a territory to ful-fledged statehood.
- I was going to attempt an answer but then decided the question was too vague. Want to try again with more detail of what you mean by "this geographic region" and "here"?
- oh USA own hawaii from a long time
because hawaii on of the american states - Um….Cuz we OWN Hawaii?
