How can I get the lowest price on a round-trip flight from Nashville, Tennessee to Kauai (less than $800)?

We need to leave on July 8th and come back on the 22nd, and we can leave any time of day going there and coming back.

  1. I have been checking Expedia, Travelocity, CheapFlights, Priceline, etc for the past few weeks…
  2. Check out E bay
  3. Thank you for your help!!
  4. imdashti… Who wouldn't want a better deal if they could get it?!? We'll pay whatever it takes to get there. I just want to know if there is a way to get a lower price. Thanks for the research.

    :)

  5. I have a few tips/suggestions for you.

    1) Don't check the sites you mentioned too often. I understand that they can 'set' your preferences and not show some of the lowest fares if the same data is repeatedly entered. Check once in a while from a friend's computer or from one at work. Don't enter any personal data.

    2) Book a flight to Honolulu and then book an interisland flight from Honolulu (HNL) to Kauai (LIH). Aloha Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Go! Airlines usually offer $29-39 one way fares from HNL to LIH (as well as Maui and the Big Island). It could be a lot cheaper for you if you add that little stopover. Most flights from as far away as TN would probably have you stop in Honolulu anyway. The only 'problem' with that would be that you'd have to retrieve your luggage in Honolulu and recheck it with the interisland airline. Not that big a deal if it saves you a couple of hundred bucks, in my opinion!

    3) Sundays are peak travel days. You will probably pay more for flights Fri.-Sun. than you will on other days of the week. If you're at all flexible about when you can travel, you might want to play with the dates a little bit and see what you can come up with.

    4) Try www.cheaptickets.com. I just found a $659 fare on ATA from Nashville to Honolulu on your travel dates (7/8-7/22). It's $801 on American to fly straight into LIH (Kauai) on those same dates using Cheaptickets.

Good luck and have fun! This is an amazing island. :)

  8. First, Kauai is served by Lihue Airport which is served by limited services from continental US (7 flights daily only). The best I could get was a total of $866 by combining a round trip from Nashville to Honolulu with a round trip from Honolulu to Lihue, which is only five dollars cheaper than a whole fare from Nashville to Lihue.
If you got cheaper than that, I say keep it. You have to know that you are flying a miminum distance of 8790 miles (roundtrip between Nashville and Lihue). If you bought an $871 fare, then you are paying less than 10 cents a mile. What do you want better than this?!!

  3. Try splitting your ticket. Buy one from Nashville (BNA) to Honolulu (HNL) and another from HNL to Kauai (LIH). ATA (www.ata.com) has a r/t $738 fare from BNA to HNL and Aloha, Mesa, & Hawaiian all fly r/t from from HNL to LIH for $94, including taxes. It still doesn't get you below $800 for the total but is pretty close.

You are also more likely to find deals from BNA to HNL if you do the HNL to LIH flight separately.

  4. Thank you for your help!!
  5. I found that sometimes you get the best way is to call airlines direct. Sometimes the internet is cheaper, sometimes the phone operators are cheaper, sometimes travel agents are cheaper. Check out all three to make sure you get the best deal. There are a few other simple suggestions you should follow too:

    – Choose the same airline for all legs of your itinerary whenever possible so you can take advantage of all connecting and round-trip airfares.

    – Try to fly on the least popular days: Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday.

    – Remember that Saturday night stays are usually required for most bargain airfares.

    – Try to select the least popular flight times: mid-morning or late evening.

    – Check with discount airlines for cheaper fares.

    – Try to book as far in advance as possible. Generally try to purchase your tickets at least 21 days in advance of departure. Many airlines also have specials requiring three-, seven- or 14-day advance purchase.

    – In general, the cheapest airfares are available in the spring and summer.

    – If you travel around the holidays, book your departure and return flights a day or more before and after peak travel dates. If you're flexible, you might benefit by waiting until the last minute to book your flight because major carriers often run special sales. These sales, however, often have a long list of rules, restrictions and blackout dates.

–Consider booking tickets that come with restrictions because they also come with a cheaper price tag.

    – Consider using alternate airports near your desired airport. The extra drive can save you hundreds of dollars.

–Be as flexible as possible with your dates (if you can).

If I can be of more assistance, feel free to contact me.

Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful trip!
