How much rain does Kauai get?

  1. 540"
  2. Average temperature ranges from 71.3 °F to 79.1 °F.
Average annual rainfall ranges from 35 inches at Poipu Beach to 444 inches at the summit of Waialeale.
  3. Q: I hear that Kauai has the most rain… will it rain when I visit?

    A. While Kauai might average a little more rain in general than the other islands, this is the reason why Kauai is so lush and green and has the nickname "The Garden Island." In general, we have wonderful weather year round and unless there is a weather system over the island, you can always find sunshine while visiting. The early mornings sometimes bring passing showers, but the skies clear as the day goes by. There is a little more rain during the "winter months," which is true for all the islands.

Kauai actually has seven distinct micro climates; including desert-like conditions on the west side, to semi-arid tropical weather at the beach resorts, to cool mountain forests above Waimea Canyon, to pastoral plains on the upper east side to tropical rain forests in the interior. While rainfall tables amount to somewhere between 20 and 40 inches a year in most of the populated sections, the center of the island is considered one of the wettest spots on earth. Kauai's location in the northern pacific, along with its extraordinary mountain formations create this fascinating variety in climate conditions. We suggest you access our weather page to research rainfall tables for Kauai.
