1. Since you won't be driving, why do you care about miles? Mapquest cannot help you with this request. You'll need to determine how far it is from Hawaii to the west coast, then calculate the distance from Detroit to the west coast. Be assured it will probably be about 1/4 to 1/3 the circumference of the Earth, or roughly 6 to 8 thousand miles.
2. About 2,385 miles, as the car drives.

   From Detroit, drive to the port of Richmond, California. Get on the ship to Honolulu, Oahu. Put the car in "park" with the brake on.

   Once you get off in Honolulu, drive down the port strip and get on a ship to Nawiliwili, Kauai. Put the car in "park" with the brake on.

   Disembark and drive the couple of miles to Lihue.
