Can you recommend any activities we can do with a 8month old in Kauai in summer timeframe. We're looking for short drives, excursions etc. thanks

1. Why bring an infant, especially in the summer? It's hot and muggy here and the sun is bad for the baby. I think you should plan something closer to home and bring your child here when s/he is older and more mobile. Kauai offers lots of activities but I can't think of any that are appropriate for a baby — ziplines, innertubing, snorkeling, hiking…

   If you just want a relaxing vacation where you sit on the beach, you should get a small tent for the baby to sit in while you're in the sun. Buy an inflatable ring with a seat inside so the baby can go in the water with you — there's a great pond with ocean water in Poipu. Take a Snugli so if you decide to go on an easy hike, the baby can ride along. You could also hit a luau (baby might like the bright colors, music, and dancing) and take one of the slow-moving boat tours up the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto.

2. Buy or borrow a book from your library about tourism in Hawaii. It will list various things to do. Your baby will probably enjoy most of it, except the plane ride. Make sure to bring alot of things to keep the baby occupied on the plane.

4. I have a child too, and it can be tough choosing activities to include a baby. Most things to do in Kauai involve alot of active activities. You could always get a rental car though and drive around and go sightseeing… which there is plenty of. And, the boat ride up the Wailua river is perfectly fine for an infant. Go to http://www.robertshawaii.com and click onto activities for Kauai for more information on that. The boat does not stop at the Fern Grotto though, cause of repair work up there. Instead, I believe there is a tram ride through some sort of botanical garden nearby. It's a nice tour though.

   Otherwise, buy a travel book on Kauai and go sightseeing around the island. You'll still have a great time.
