What is aloha wear?

I am going to attend a wedding in Kauai in August. The wedding invite says to come in "aloha wear". What exactly does that mean? Slacks? Shorts? Tie? Jacket?

  1. Thanks,
  2. I think it's a silver thong and a pink feather boa!
  3. NO ties, dress casual, slacks with a nice hawaiian shirt, even sandals are acceptable. you are there to relax and share time.
  4. tropocal clothes hawaian shirt whit trees plants and it should be colorful.. shorts usualy baige.. no tie.. if u want straw hat..
  5. Tropical clothes, like u know what they wear in hawaii
  6. Colorful Hawaiian shirt, other tropical type clothing.
  7. Aloha wear is just the printing of the textile.
in hawaii, for formal stuffs the man wears what we call an aloha shirt (a shirt with hawaiians printing) with pants. no need to wear any ties or jackets. It's really simple. if you don't have any hawaiian shirts, buy one when you get there.
  8. Shorts, a hawaiian patterened shirt, wear a lei around your neck and flip flops. Have Fun!
  9. “Aloha wear” usually means slacks and a Hawaiian print shirt for a guy. It’s pretty casual, you don’t need to worry about a jacket or tie, which is nice for you. You could probably wear shorts, even, and sandals or flip-flops, depending on where and when the wedding is – if it’s at night in a hotel ballroom, I’d stick with slacks, but if it’s in the afternoon outside, go for the shorts if you want. Wear what’s comfortable for you, with something with a Hawaiian print, as bold or muted as you want.
  10. Hawaiians in general are laid back people. Aloha wear is casual clothing… so definitely NO TIE and NO SUIT.

If you must wear a "jacket" then match it up with some khakis or shorts.

Hawaiian wear for men can be a hawaiian print shirt, shorts and flip flops or sandals.

For women it can be a moo-moo dress, a hawaiian sarong, sandals

Hilo Hatte specializes in Hawaiian wear. Check out their web site at http://www.hilohattie.com/

  11. thongs and a surf board
  12. I would say a simple pair of Khaki pants, and a button down short sleeved shirt, you can wear a Hawaiian print if you like.
    Sounds like fun!
  13. Since I lived in Hawaii, I shuld kno, right? Well, it's basically something comfortable, with hawaiian print. For example, you could look for a hawaiian print (flowery) shirt and khaki shorts…and that would be considered "aloha wear"!!!
  14. Put shortly, you can get away with anything except a dark suit and tie.

Based on your avatar, I think recommendations of brightly patterned shirts and khaki shorts are way off for you. Don't worry, though, you don't have to wear a lei! My recommendation for you is linen. Lot of linen. You can even wear a causal linen suit if you want, though you should probably still skip the tie. Pay attention to the time of day, too - Night might be a little more formal, even aloha-style. And don't forget to have a plan for footwear, especially if you'll be walking on sand.

  15. Kahki Shorts (Preferably Cargo) and a Hawaiian Print Shirt, wear a solid color under shirt under the Hawaiian Shirt and leave the Hawaiian shirt open, you'll be solid
