Whats the best way to get from waikiki to hana maui?
I booked a 5 day trip to waikiki hawaii but I would like to know what are the best/cheapest ways to get to and from the islands. I especially want to check out waterfalls in hana and north shore kauai.
- There is no way you can go to Kauai, Maui, and also Oahu, and have a worthwhile visit, in just 5 days. Waikiki is a part of the city of Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. Kauai is about 100 miles northwest and Hana is two islands over to the east, on Maui.
Per your question, the fastest way to get between the islands is by plane. The cheapest airline is "I Fly Go!" which is a start-up and usually has $29 one-way fares. Their website is www.iflygo.com. Of course, you will have to have transportation to Honolulu airport.
The airport on Kauai is Lihue Airport (LIH), and the North Shore of Kauai is about a 90 minute drive from there.
Hana, Maui has its own airport but don't expect to find very many flights from Honolulu. It's a 3-4 hour, nauseating, winding road drive from the main airport in Maui, Kahului (OGG), but you can probably find a connecting flight from that airport to Maui on a commuter plane.
My suggestion to you is to make each trip to each island its own, and to just stay on Oahu. There is enough for you to see on Oahu alone (outside of Waikiki) to last for even a 30 day trip. Enjoy!
