Palmetto Bugs In Florida?

Is it possible to live in Florida and not see palmetto bugs in your home? I'm considering moving back to Florida, but honestly its the only thing stopping me. I lived there in the 80s and they never seemed to be a problem, and I saw maybe one or two out in the lanai, but they seem to be more a problem now?

  1. I only see like 4 of them a year
  2. They are a nuisance and gross most people out due to their size. And darn it they do fly. I have had simple solutions in the past, an outdoor dog who loves to stalk and eat them. An indoor cat who also savors them. They are sickly crunchy, and when you stomp them outside they pop kinda like catsup packets on asphalt.
  3. The gulf coast of Texas has the same problem. Palmetto bugs there are called cockroaches and are huge. They actually fly on occasion.

It is imperative to keep your home pest free by hiring a pest control company to visit at least every three months. They will always be there. Those things have managed to survive longer than elephants. Yes, they are more of a problem due to the wet climate. They also love to live in palm trees (thus their name). Best wishes. I still think Florida is a good idea despite the pests. Sunshine, beaches, good people.

  4. They will always be around. Few in the winter and more in the summer. They love the damp, and humid weather.
