What is a lanai, in a sentence, "The room comes with a lanai."?
- Here in Hawaii, "lanai" can be used interchageably to describe any open structure that's connected to the house (or condominium, apartment, townhome, etc). "Lanai" can describe open-air structures ranging from an elaborate custom designed patio, a green house, a balcony… down to a plain old concrete slab!
When friends come over, we kick back in the patio. When my boss comes over, we discuss business out on the balcony. When I have a dinner party, guests mingle with drinks out on the lanai. When my brothers come over, we play poker on the porch!
Kinda hard to figure out, huh? - a outdoor room with a roof but no walls
- People in Hawaii use the term "lanai" to represent many different things, although they're all outdoors: patio, porch, balcony, courtyard or a terrace…normally with some sort of roof (no walls), awning, or overhead covering.
- An enclosed, but open( glass or screen) outside room attached to the house.

- it's a balcony. I just got back from Hawaii and you don't have balconies or decks you have lanai's.
- A lanai (luh-nai) is like an outdoor patio. Did you ever watch "The Golden Girls?" They're always going out onto the lanai.
