Honeymoon Advice Please - I am trying to decide if I want to go to Maui or to a Sandals Resort in St. Lucia.?

Hi. I am going to get married next summer and I am trying to decide where I want to go for my honeymoon. I can either go to Maui, Hawaii and stay at the Four Seasons Hotel. Or I can go to St. Lucia or Antigua and stay at an All - Inclusive Sandals Resort. They both sound good to me therefore I cant decide which one would be best. If you have been to a Sandals Resort please tell me how you liked the experience and which one of the resorts you stayed at. I really appreciate all of your advice!!

  1. I Stayed at Sandals Montego Bay. It was awesome. I loved that everything is included, and that I didn't have to worry about paying for anything. I would stay there again in a heart beat over any other hotel. The staff was friendly, and there was a ton to do. They always had something going on like beach/pool volleyball, games, and there were shows at night time.
  2. I went to the Sandals a year ago and loved it! But then again I stayed at a hotel in Maui….I would actually go to the one in Maui if It was my choice thought!!
  3. Take the Sandals resort in St. Lucia. It's awesome, and Maui is very much a tourist trap these days, with nothing seemingly truly Hawaiian. (Other parts of HI are better.) Good luck on ur Honeymoon!

Lucia and stay at an All - Inclusive Sandals Resort. They both sound good to me therefore I cant decide which one would be best. If you have been to a Sandals Resort please tell me how you liked the experience and which one of the resorts you stayed at. I have heard both good and bad things about the Sandals Resorts. If you have been to a sandals resort would you recommend it for a honeymoon? Or would you recommend somewhere else that I probably havent even thought of? I really appreciate all of your advice!!

  1. Both of the destinations you chose are great choices. St. Lucia is actually considered the Hawaii of the Caribbean with the waterfalls, volcanos, lush & almost mountainous terrain, etc.

With Sandals there are 3 there in St. Lucia. I most often use the Regency and the Grande, but which is best for you I am only able to determine my personal opinion in speaking with a person, by asking just various questions to help me determine which I feel you will like best. Sandals Grande actually used to be a Hyatt so it definitely has a different ambiance than most Sandals resorts.

Have you stayed at an All Inclusive before? The reason I ask is because depending on the way you travel some love all inclusive, some don't at all. To where maybe then Hawaii would be the better choice.

Depending on your city location of course will determine what type of flight time it would take you to get there, so that might be something to take into consideration if that is something of concern.

With Hawaii I would say Maui and the Big Island are the better choices. Are you planning on staying just on one island if you go to Hawaii? Also as lovely as the Four Seasons is, there is also the Fairmont Kea Lani that to is quite beautiful.

As far as bad experiences with Sandals, I have had few complaints with them over the years but I will say they are not all at the same level so that really makes a difference to your experience as well.

As far as another location suggestion as I said both great choices. A lot is going to determine what you and your fiancée have come up with a budget that you would like to stay around for your Honeymoon.

The Tahitian Islands such as Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, Huanine, etc. That is going to be "unique" because it is truly like no other place in the world. What they are mostly known for are there over water bungalows, some with beach bungalows with private pools. Tahitian Islands are very expensive though due to there uniqueness they can get away with it. Some wouldn't like here only because it is a very low key, few tours to choice from but other than that very quiet.

As to where with Hawaii there are many more options for activities and traveling outside your resort.

There are resorts in Tahiti that at some resorts there are restaurants set up quite elegantly, only they are a "barefoot" dining experience. Instead of just swim up pool bars they have swim up ocean bars. In the over water bungalows you sometimes have a "pool" area dug out in the ocean. You can feed the fish from the floor from glass panels that open in various parts of the bungalow. At night you can turn on an illuminating light to attract the fish as well.

With Tahiti though, you want to be careful in choosing properties because what seems like a great price might not get you what you think. Depending on Budget, a couple would be better looking at the Caribbean where there money could go further.

The water is so clear that you literally can see 60 feet down! Because of the surrounding Motu's this keeps most of the resorts beach areas extremely calm.

Another place I would have to say would be the Mayan Riviera area which is South of Cancun. They have some beautiful resorts there. The Paradisus I would have to say would be a good choice. There are a few other high end ones, but they aren’t All Inclusive. In this area you can do swim with the dolphins, visit the Mayan Ruins, take a ferry ride over to Cozumel and some like to rent a motor scooter for the day to tour around the island. With several possible options depending on your interests.

I am going to Tahiti for my first time April 24th so I suppose I have it on the mind!

I would strongly recommend working with a seasoned travel specialist to help with your Honeymoon planning. A Honeymoon is just too important to leave chance for problems. Even with the best of agent, problems can still occur, but isn't it nice knowing you have someone to turn to instead of some that need to call an 800 # waiting for the next available rep. You have recourse this way as well if a mistake does happen to be made.

I apologize for the jumping around. Saw your post, wanted to reply, but it's late and I was on my way to sleep =) Anyways I am seeing this post is getting quite long!

Congrats on your Engagement and I'm sure no matter where you both choice you will have a memorable Honeymoon!

Side Note: Off of Maui'd saying in Hawaii we speak your language. They speak english in the Caribbean as well and I'm unsure of what he is talking about never feeling welcome in the Caribbean? I go once or twice a year and never felt "unwelcome" on any of the islands I have visited. Don't get me wrong, Maui IS beautiful, but by the post sounds a bit more like a sales pitch than anything considering his wife works there. Just an observation!

  2. Aloha from Maui,

I own a wedding company on Maui (Maui'd Forever) and my wife works as an esthetician at the Four Seasons. Maui is the best because we speak your language, you can drink the water and most importantly we have "Aloha". I have travelled the Caribbean extensively and never felt welcome. Come to Maui and see more do more and do it feeling really good!

    Sincerely,

  4. trust me, the ebst honeymoon spot is this place in vietnam. dont worry its changes since the war. it is actually really nice and safe. its called evason hodeaway. it is beutiful you have a private villa with a pool and a view of the beach. its is so much funa and teh food is great. you can even dine in a wine cellar tehy made inside a mountain. or another great place is Hotel Caruso on the almalfi coast. its is teh most elegent and beutiful hotel. it is ontop of a cliff overlooking the mediteranian. st lucia and hawaii are overpopulated with tourists and you dont get teh feel of a difefrent culture.
  5. I personally would rather go to Hawaii but I heard mixed things about sandals. just today, someone was telling me about a bad experience their daughter had with sandals in the Bahamas.. I think Hawaii is better for honeymoon. look both up online and ask lots of people and make your decision when more people let you know their opinions..

  1. I am a huge Four Seasons fan, having stayed at a couple of their properties. There are 2 things I can tell you about them:

    1. You will be treated like royalty. The service at FS is some of the best I've ever experienced. I am forever spoiled and don't like to stay anywhere else if I can help it. I am taking my first Hawaii trip this year and am staying at FS Manele Bay on Lanai and poss the one on Maui as well. From what I have heard, Hawaii, and Maui especially, is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

However, 2. You will spend like royalty. Their service comes with a price and everything at a FS property will be more $$ that you would expect. Drinks are $10, a dinner entree is $35, etc. I still feel its worth it, even when I choke down paying $6 for a basic PB and J for one of my kids. Everything gets charged to you room so you don't have to worry about carrying cash - one of the perks the all inclusive resorts advertise a lot. The resorts are very classy, well maintained and the bathroom in your hotel room will be to die for.

I went to the Sandals in St Lucia for my honeymoon - it was 9 years ago so take that into consideration when reading my comments. The all-inclusive thing was great, you could hang out all day without worrying about how much $$ you were spending. There are lots of activies, especially stuff for couples and honeymooners who are 99% of their guests. Hubby and I joked that just about every female guest had the typical bridal french manicure. However it felt forced and a bit canned, like their ads look, or you might expect from a Disney resort. Everything from decor to the staff uniforms were bright splashy tropical colors, the "theme" restaurants were overally themed, etc. However, the island was beautiful, there was plenty to see and do and we did have a good time.

If cost is a factor, Sandals would be your best bet since beyond your room rate the only costs would be souvaniers and maybe a tour or a special bottle of wine. But if its not, IMHO the Four Seasons would be the one for your once in a lifetime trip.

    Good Luck and Enjoy!

  2. I have never been on a sandles resort but I have been to St lucia. It is beutiful and I cant wait to go back
  3. My choice is Four Seasons Hotel in Maui. Hawaii is incredible. Very high class hotel. You will love it.

Have a fun honeymoon, no matter what you choose.
    Good luck.

  4. hi, my wife and I got married at Sandals regency in St Lucia , and then returned for our one year anniversary to the Grande St lucian Sandals. Unless your staying for more than a week , and your on the west cost of USA…..st Lucia all the way!!! I can attest , Sandals is nice. You dont have to worry about additional expenses while on the resort and the food is good , drinks etc. I have nothing bad to say about the people in St Lucia at sandals or otherwise. Take the helicopter ride from the airport to the resort. Its only 125.00 per person 1 way ….but real worth the 250.00 because they fly past the "piton Mts" ,,,,awesome !!!!
  5. Sandals caters to Honeymooner's but generally isn't always the best, some people rave about their experience while other's are negative, I think both choices are excellent and what ever you choose will be good, and hope that you don't have any service issues.

    =)
