My fiance and I are honeymooning in Hawaii this August. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay? We are staying in Kauai for a week and Maui for a week and we are currently booked at the Fairmont in Maui, but we want to know if there is something compairable to the Fairmont just a little cheaper, or is the Fairmont our best bet?
- The Fairmont is an excellant choice. If you want to stay on the south side (Wailea/Makena), you may want to look into the Maui Prince or Wailea Marriott. Both are likely less expensive and still very nice … although probably not as luxurious as the Fairmont.
You may also want to consider West Maui (Kaanapali/Kapalua). There is more stuff to do over there in general than South Maui. Some recommendations for hotels on that side would be the Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton Maui, Westin Maui or the Hyatt Regency.
I hope this helps.
- Aloha and congrats on your future wedding!! I have never stayed in Kauai or Maui only on Oahu five times. But here are some sources for you.

- We stayed on the Kaanapali beach area and I recommend the Sheration there.
If you go to Maui, you gotta do the downhill bike ride. I don't recommend the sunrise one because you have to get up at 3:00 AM to get started up the mountain and its cold up there that early. If you are a romantic do it, but otherwise no. There are different bike companies and some don't take you all the way to the top, and some don't guide you back down. You can come down by yourself, there's only one road with just a little traffic, but if you are squimish about riding in the street, a company that accompanys you down will help watch the traffic for you. I have been twice and prefer Maui Downhill to the others. These companies have web sites They will pick you up at your hotel, take you to their shop to pick out a wet-suit (for the cold and mist/rain shower maybe) and gloves and helmet; then take you up the mountain; then follow your group down so they can block traffic for your ride; then afterwards take you back to your hotel. Expect this activity to take 75-80% or more of the day.

suggestions for place to stay in maui for honeymoon…..quiet, away from kids and noise?
- The Ritz Carlton is closing this summer and won't be openning until next year (after 95 million dollar renovations). But will be an awesome choice afterwards.
Hana is very secluded and you can rent houses right on the beach there. But it doesn't leave you options for wining & dining at nice restaraunts.
Try Kapalua Ridge or the Ironwoods. If it helps and you want to look into it further, look for condos in Kapalua, Honokowai, or Kahana. These three little towns are actually in the zipcode of Lahaina (96761)
Try a condominium because they tend to be more quiet and secluded from the lights and nightlife that a lot of people on vacation are looking for.
- I was in Maui a couple of years ago. It was an amazing trip btw!
Anyways….. If you want quiet and private I was suggest staying at a condo. We stayed in a condo and it was very private, convenient, and WONDERFUL!
There are tons of people in Maui who rent out condos. You can get simple one bedrooms, or grand homes. There are also taller options and lower options. But, from what I know most of the condos in Maui are low rises - one to two stories. I think prices range from around $90 - several thousand. For a simple one bedroom that isn't on the beach I imagine the price would be less. For a fancier option on the beach, it'd be more.
Kihei has lots of condos. This is where we stayed. It was cheap, but, we had to rent a car because the beach we were closest to wasn't great - Kihei is known for cheap condos AND for not so great beaches. Most of the condos have pools though! There are a few ok beaches, but, I'd be really careful about checking it out before renting.
Lahaina is lovely! Not super private unless you get a beach side hotel. BUT, it's a quaint little area with great restaurants and stores. It's like 1/100th the size of Waikiki - not sure if that means anything to you. I think if I went to Maui again, Lahaina is where I'd stay - at a beach side hotel or cottage or something.
I found some of the resorts a little too big. I didn't like that.
And… just a side note. If you go to Hana, TAKE A GUIDED TOUR. Driving it on your own sucks because the roads are so curvy and unpredictable whoever is driving doesn't really get to appreciate and enjoy it!
Big Beach is the BEST EVER!
And, if I were to go again I would definately take a day trip over to Lanai AND get a massage on the beach. There is a hotel in Lahaina that offers that service.
- Ritz-Carleton Kapalua. Spendy, but phenominal with a private beach.
Aside from that take the drive to Hana and stay there.
