Recommendations for Maui?

I'm heading to Maui for the first time with my wife, daughter (7) and another couple with two younger kids. I'd be grateful for any recommendations on activities, places to eat, etc. We're staying in Kaanapali.

  1. I am going myself for the first time this year with my 3 year old son. I have found a few things to do with him. There is the Sugar Cane Train. It goes from Kaanapali down to 2 other cities. It takes a couple of hours because you can get out and tour the cities.
Depending on when you go, you can actually go whale watching. There are a bunch of things to do. Hopefully you can trade off babysitting days with the other couple so you can do some of the adult things like, bike riding, snorkeling, dinner cruises etc.
  2. Try not to stray away from major urban areas.

I've heard the natives eat tourists in their luaus.

They only use pigs in the ones they do in town, so tourists don't freak out.

  3. with small kids it can be tough because most of the major activities are outdoors and geared for active participants (biking, snorkeling, hiking).

One of my favorite things in maui was a bike ride down haleakala (the big volcano - careful its cold at the top) which obviously isnt suitable for young children.

There are always luaus, the one at the hyat in kaanapali was pretty good last time I was there.

  4. You and the kids will enjoy the sub ride on the Aquarius in Lahaina.
Also the aquarium would be fun.
Whale watching is about wrapped up for the season sadly.

Have a great trip and I am sure You will have a trip to remember.
