Vacation in Maui or Oahu? I heard some Maui beaches have gross water, bugs , seaweed… true or false?
I have heard that Sugar beach, N. Kihei and Lahaina beaches in Maui aren't really swimmable. I always envisioned the Maui beaches as pristine and beautiful. Please give me your two cents so that I know if Maui or Oahu is a better vacation spot. I am most interested in N. Kihei and Sugar beach.
- Thanks!!!
- truly false ,,never been to a BEACH ON MAUI THAT WAS BAD ,
- Go to Maui, and visit Makena Beach and Lahaina. Best places in Hawaii, hands down.
- Maui hands down. The beaches are beautiful so what your hearing is wrong. The road to Hanna is the greatest trip you will ever take in a car. have a great time.
- Also, I am wondering if there are big waves on Oahu or Maui during October-November.
- Depends what you mean by "not swimmable."
Pristine? Well, they're obviously outdoors - so bugs, seaweed, driftwood, crabs, seashell fragments, ants, flying creatures, etc. are all part of the ballgame. I've been to the beach at Kihei, and never considered it "not swimmable".
There are great and passable beaches all throughout the islands. Hononuma Bay in Oahu (not sure of spelling) is one thing - Waikiki Beach at the peak of tourist season is another. And Waikiki before they fixed the sewer flow was STILL a big tourist draw, and I'd qualify that as not swimmable, wouldn't you?
I just find the vibe on each of the islands is different enough to more than make up for a particular beach. There are excellent spots on the Big Island, Kauai, and all the islands which are unlike each of the others.
The great thing, too, is that even if Sugar beach isn't to your liking, Lahaina is just a short drive away.
- I loved Maui; however I didn't go there just to lay on the beaches. There is so much stuff to do there. Go out and get a travel book. Maui's waters are a bit rough that is why there are lots of surfers on the waters not the best to go into like in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Aloha !
I live in Maui and have been here for the past 18 years. I am curious to know who informed you ! Shame on them.
The beaches here are the top rated beaches in the world. N Kihei and Sugar Beach are nice - the area gets a little crowded though it's still nice. Not trying to solicit you, though you might want to peak at my new property, I will be renting to vacationers www.hanagolfestate.com
It is on the eastern tip of the island, and it is remote and very very beautiful, most likely the way you are imagining it!!
Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.
Warmest Regards,
Sandra
