1. my fav's on maui are a tie between the fairmont kea lani and the four seasons…with slightly favoring kea lani. both are located in wailea.

   a good solid third is the ritz carlton.

   why kea lani as my barely first place choice? because it was originally not a chain hotel. it was privately owned and was built with that uniqueness found only in non-chain world class resorts.

   four seasons is ALWAYS nice and is my choice of staying in places I visit where there is one. I am never disappointed staying at any four seasons. their service is always impeccable, classy and refined.

   I am a ritz fan to a ceratin degree. while I will subjectively say that some of the ritz hotel rooms are nicer than four seasons…it comes down to service for me. I want a nice and clean place to stay in and I can stay at the very best THUS what sets hotels apart are the level of service, attention and refinement.

   kea lani is refined yet casual enough for the hawaiian atmosphere. the four seasons and ritz have a 'mainland' feel to it first, then the hawaiian culture comes through. hawaii is a unique place IF you can truly be absorbed into its culture.
