What does the rents run in Maui for 2 adults with 2 small dogs 1 0r 2 bedroom?
- I will be moving soon. It is just my husband and I and 2 small dogs. I loved Lahaina I want to be semi close to the beach and I am not fond of the cold so I dont want to go up mountain much. He is a Union Painter and has a job lined up. We dont need anything fancy just small, simple and something to start with.Even a 1 bedroom in a 2 unit apt complex it dosent really matter
- I believe my cousin told me they run like 3,000.00 a month .
- Been there done that
- The rent can run from around 800 to 10,000. General question, but Tropical Boy is right. Kihei is cheaper than Wailea, but more than Kahului. Haiku is great, so is Paia. Yah, you need to figure out where you're gonna work on the island, but for 2 people and a 2 dogs, you'll want to stay away from a condo. Get a little ohana behind a big house and rent for anywhere from 1500 and up. It's expensive, but it Hawaii.
- If you are moving soon I hope you have started the quarantine stuff for your dogs, as it takes 4+ months.
Hawaii is rabies free and pets cannot come in unless they have had their titers done, and are proven to be rabies free. You CANNOT import pit bulls (which is ironic as most of the dogs on island look to be pit mixes) There are import papers and fees involved; all the bloodwork is linked to a microchip so they'd better already have those. The quarantine is 120 days, they can do the time on the mainland but coming down to the wire it's pretty hair-pulling, getting the paperwork to Oahu, looked over by a vet there, and forwarded to the airport quarantine station. Not like you can stick them under your seat, they have to fly cargo (only exception is pets under 9" tall on ATA) and go through the quarantine station on Oahu. That means you MUST fly into Honolulu and take an inter-island hop; you have to go get them at the airport quarantine station and re-check them; you ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT take them out of their crates on airport property.
Landlords can charge pretty much what they want, esp if you have pets…expect $2000 and up. IF you can even find one who will take pets…
You may not want to be "cold" but only the top of Haleakala really gets chilly; down near the beach you will cook without A/C, esp on Kihei/Lahaina side; 1500-2000 feet up mauka is about right year round. - This question is a little off track. You dont just move to Maui and expect a price to be the same wherever you go. It will be more expensive the closer you get to Lahaina and Kihei. Kahului and Wailuku will be not as expensive but not cheap either. Do you and this other person sleep together or not? do you mind living in the rains upcountry in Makawao or Pukalani or Kula? Do your dogs go outside for that matter? I myself would pay about 1000 a month for an OK place, but nothing great. But then again I like simplicity and love living in Haiku on Mauis North rural shores.
- Rents will be high, but the more important thing is that your dogs will be quarantined for something like a month or so. They do that because they dont want stuff from the mainland contaminating their animals. Probably a bit over the top, but that's the way it is. Just a heads up for your consumption.
