Which island is better maui or honolulu?

island

  1. I have been to both islands, Oahu and Maui are they are both unique. Oahu and especially Honolulu and Waikiki are very busy areas. If you are looking to relax, Oahu is not the place, although on my last trip we spent 7 days there exclusively.

I prefer Maui for a few reasons, most notably is the variety of events that you can participate in. There are a lot more water sports on Kanapalli Beach. In addition, there is the day trip to Hana, the adventure to the top of Haleakala, or bike down it if you like (I have done this twice and loved it both times).

There are a lot of hotel options, but in my opinion the best is to rent a condo on Maui. We stayed at Kapalua, which is part of the Ritz Carlton resort. You can use the Ritz's beach and pools and take advantage of the activities are the Ritz.

There are a lot of nice hotels, but you get a lot more for your money (and additional privacy) by staying in a Condo.

    Aloha.

  2. I pefer Honolulu ,but Honolulu is the capital of the island Oahu
  3. If you want to be in a more countryside/peaceful like nature, you should go to Maui. If you want to be in the city and want to go in the urban life, you should go to Honolulu.
  4. I would agree, the best island for you would depend on what you are looking to do. I live on Oahu & have vacationed on Maui. If you like crowds of people Honolulu is a great place for you. If not, keep in mind, Honolulu is not all Oahu has to offer. The Windward side is beautiful, green & has great beaches that aren't as crowded as Waikiki. You can visit Kualoa ranch & see where famous movies have been filmed, go ATV riding, or horseback riding. In the Winter the North Shore is famous for it's MONSTER waves.

If you are looking for a more tropical setting with less people I would say it would be worth taking a trip to Hana on Maui. Be warned if you go to Hana the road gets narrow & winds a lot. If you get car sick easy I would not recommend this ride. On the road to Hana you will pass by many waterfalls. It is a beautiful ride. When you get to Hana it is a quiet, very small town. We rented a cabin there on the ocean for a night & hiked to a secluded red sand beach.

  5. Well, considering that I have never been to Maui, and I have been to Honolulu (Oahu) six times, I would have to say Oahu!
There is alot to see and do on Oahu, and I have friends who live on Oahu.
Maybe next time I am there, maybe take the superferry to Maui.
  6. I haven't been to Maui but have traveled to Honolulu. Honolulu is very crowded and busy. I still enjoyed myself though. On the other hand, I hear that Maui is more relaxed. If I go back, I would like to go to Maui.
  7. It depends on what you're looking for. Honolulu is located on the island of Oahu and is the capital of the state of Hawaii.

Oahu is the heaviest populated island and has the most opportunities for things to do such as nightclubs and such.

Maui is the 2nd most populated island but doesn't have the rush-rush attitude of Oahu. Maui (and the other outer islands) has it's own charm and the laid back lifestyle of old Hawaii is still evident in some of the smaller rural towns of Maui (they are still evident in some of the small towns of Oahu too, they're just harder to find).

People come to Honolulu from the outer islands when they want to go shopping and such…..

So it really depends on what you're wanting to do. Both islands have their own charm……
