How can I visit Niihau?
What permissions are required?
- You have to get permission from the Robinson family and have a very good reason to be there. You can check ou this website: http://www.hawaiipoint.com/pages/niihau….
If you do not have direct permission to be on Niihau from the Robinson Family, you can still see it from afar, by boat, enjoy some snorkling or a helicopter tour.
If you are part of a Hawaiian Discovery type program, my sister was part of, Na Pua Noeau you may be able to discuss the possiblities of spending some time on Niihau. Especially since there are only 250 Hawaiians there and they all live the old Hawaiian lifestyle.
It's like mainland kids spending a week with the amish.
- By state law all beaches are public property up to the high-water line. So you can go by boat, but don't head up too far inland or you might be trespassing.
