Any warnings or attractions I should know about for Makaha Oahu?
- Be very respectful to the locals, if any problems walk away & dial 911. Not to scare you 90% of the people out there are very friendly to tourists. They are country people. If the surf isany higher than 2-3 feet ask the lifeguard before going into the water. A couple of people die every year. Currents are tricky. Have fun. There is a golf course & hotel up in the valley. Don't leave any valubles in your car or trunk! Surf gets big in the winter. Good fun if you know what you're doing.
- don't j-walk you will get a sticker saying I love your smile then an expensive ticket
- Here's some Makaha surf fotos I took. Tides and wave can be tricky in that area. Lots of homeless people beach camping on that side of the island so watch your valuables
- great question, there are dozens of things you need to know to stay safe near the ocean.
here's one: don't step on those tiny little blueish bubble like things along the shoreline. they are 1-2 inches long and they kinda melt when once on the beach. they are washed up Portuguese man-o-war jellyfish. very unusual looking, and the tendency is to pick one up to examine. don't.
- Born & raised in Hawaii (Oahu & Maui)
- do not leave anything in the trunk of your car!
- Be careful if you are caucasion. The locals out there are very territorial!!
- The Location:
Located on Oahu's West (Waianae) Coast near world famous Makaha Surfing Beach. Fronting coral reefs and tide pools and near a sandy cove where the green sea turtles come to shore and bask in the sand.
Things to See & Do Nearby:
