Anyone ever heard of Makaha Sunset Apartments on Oahu?
I'm looking for a place to stay on Oahu and came across this "old plantation home" renovated into apartments. They call it Makaha Sunset Apartments. I was wondering if anyone knew what street it is on, and if it is an okay area. It doesn't have to be the best area, but I don't want to stay in a place that has drugees or drunks down the street or around the corner, or (worse) in the apartments. The description says that it is across from the Makaha beach. Is that a good family beach?
- Makaha is WAY out on the west side of O'ahu. If you're visiting, you will have a very LONG drive and LOTS of traffic to contend with. Due to the extremely high cost of living and rents, O'ahu has a very serious homeless population. Most of the homeless folks have no choice but to live on the beach, and the west side of O'ahu has a lot of struggling families with no choice other than to live on the beach and use the park facilities. There is also a huge crystal meth/ice problem throughout Hawai'I (including O'ahu). You can't escape it either; unfortunately it has permeated every aspect of life in Hawai'I. Auwe no ho'I e. You should consider staying closer to town (I.e., Honolulu). Just my mana'o.
- I know that place, a co-worker of mine lives there. She says it's not a good neighborhood & it looks like they got a big roach problem in the apartments. Look out for drug using locals high on Crystal Meth.
- If you are not familiar with Oahu, it's best to avoid Makaha.
