Does anyone know what beaches in Oahu, within an hour drive from Honolulu, have the best sunset view in March?
- I'm trying to find a relatively secluded, romantic beach close to Honolulu where in March (I'm emphasizing March because as you probably know
the sunset view is different throughout the year) the sunset can be seen in all its beauty, going down and touching the ocean, not mountains or roofs of houses. Could you give me some suggestions? - Many thanks in advance!
- You can't really get a sun set on Waikiki, you'll need to travel to the other side of the Island. Rent a car, it's about $60. Go to the nature preserve during the day and on the way back, stop at "Sunset Beach" It's quiet, and it's wonderful. Please don't swim at sunset, that is feeding time for sharks.
- The sunset side is the western side of the island (of course) and if you want a nice place that is relatively secluded, go to Makaha beach or better yet, you can drive to the Ihilani resort which is very nice but in a secluded place and have a cocktail on the beach.
- I went to Oahu in July to visit a friend who moved there. I don't think it takes more than an hour (without traffic) to get anywhere on the island. We went from the very bottom part of the island to the very top in about 45 minutes. With traffic, however, it's a different story. Traffic there is horrible. A gorgeous beach area is Ko Olina. It's very peaceful, there aren't a ton of people, and you have to get a little slip (free) from the front gate to even get in. It's the perfect place for swimming to because there aren't really any waves because of the lagoons.
