My family & I are are seriously considering moving to the mainland US states. We're unable to afford the increasing living costs here and there is a lack of specialized medical care for the condition one of us is suffering from. Day to day we are struggling to survive financially and relying on friends and family help to get by. Our combined monthly income is about $2500. There are three of us, including me, all adults.

1. I have lived on Oahu my whole life so I know nothing about the mainland. Despite net searches, I have no clue where to start looking or where to go or how to relocate. I also do not know how life on Oahu differs from life in the mainland US states.

3. try the pacific northwest because of the overcast conditions. stay away from really big cities anywhere because the expense is ridiculous smaller outerlying areas still have medical care but the price of renting is much less than bigger cities a great deal depends on other factors that you did not mention check out the real estate sites on the web in cities and see what they are saying about jobs climates etc that may give you a great deal of info good luck

6. I'd suggest Washington state or Oregon, as a second choice.

   Many Hawaii transplants suffer severe culture shock when they move to the mainland, so I'd suggest choosing a state where there is a decent concentration of Hawaii people so you don't feel too homesick or out of place.

   I moved from the Big Island to California, and while it is gorgeous and wonderful here, the cost of housing is super high here. Not as high as Oahu, but pretty darn high. The median house costs about $550K here, which makes owning a house just a dream for 89% of San Diegans.

   Anyway, a lot of people that move from Hawaii tend to settle in places like California, Oregon, Washington, Las Vegas, Texas, Arizona and Colorado. I personally think Colorado is waaaayyy too cold, and Texas, Arizona and Vegas a bit too hot, but that's just me. So that leaves Oregon and Washington.

   Housing isn't too crazy in Washington, and you are just about guaranteed to make more money up here in the mainland for the same skill set than you made in Hawaii. You can rent a 2 bedroom in Washington for a thousand bucks. Check out specific neighborhoods, though, for more specifics on crime rates, because as you might imagine, crime rates vary from zip code to zip code and neighborhood to neighborhood. Washington is very rainy and overcast much of the time, very diverse and has a lot of Hawaii people, good universities and medicines and a bright career outlook. I think Washington would definitely be a good choice for you and your family.

   You can check cost of living index on Internet, put name of city and State you can then compare it to your town. Labour Department also has a site to do compare-reasons. State college towns are usually cheaper, some have hospitals too. What do you do $2500/- is very low for three of you, come to $5.20 or so an hour.

   Check every thing on Internet, takes time and efforts. USA is about same most places, have no public transportation need a car.

11. okay if you have a sun problem then you do not want to live in the south. So you will need to pick north part of the usa. Muliti-cultured place would be big city area. Low crime- you can live out side a large city like Cleveland Ohio and drive into the city for things. Life in Hawaii should be like like in the usa because it is apart of the usa. Do you have a century21 real estate agancy there? you can ask them for a listing of rentals in the northern part of mainland Usa? As for low crime rate, If you look up the fbi report on the fbi.org for city crime rate. There always good jobs in the north area.

13. I live on Oahu too. Where on Oahu are you? I'm sorry you feel you have to leave the aloha state. Texas is great place to live. It is a diverse state with a lot of people of different ethnic backgrounds and plenty of job opportunities.

17. Looking at the things that would affect where you would go, I would say, look at the chicago land area. You may think everything is expensive, but if you look for awhile I bet you'll find somthing. Chicago land is VERY good about access to medical care. there are also MANY MANY job openings. I suggest you look here. I don't live in the area anymore, but I still know alot about it.

   I guess northern california, north carolina, virginia is beautiful, don't go up north ( too expensive and cold).

    because there is, like, NO sun there 2/3 of the year [raining all the time] & theres some really good nationwide famous hospitals there, too
