Whale Watching on Oahu?

What month do the whales arrive so that we can see them?

  1. If you really want to see the whales go to Maui. The area between the islands of Maui, Lanai and Molokai form a shallow protected area for the whales and the newborn calves. They congregate in this area every year in far greater numbers than anywhere else in the Hawaiian Islands.

There are several very good whalewatching tours out of Lahaina , Maui that will guarantee sightings. My favorite is "Ultimate Whalewatch", they use a Zodiac that allows for faster travel and is much more manuverable.

A good source for Hawaiian Humpback information is "The Pacific Whale Foundation". Check out their website. Also, you can view some of the pictures I took this past January at Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/palguy/sets…

  2. Late November through March with them heading north late march into April. They are gone now!

January and February are the best times to see them.

  4. Your best chance of seeing whales is during November through March with January and February being the most populated months.

I've found that the whales tend to like Maui for some reason and seem to congregate around there in high numbers.

Good luck and happy whale watching next season……..
