What to do in oahu, in 3 hours!?

my parents are going to hawaii (the big island) in october, and I'm flying out after them so I don't miss as much school. I have like a 4 hour lay over in honolulu before I fly down to the big island and was wondering if it would be worth it to take a cab somewhere in the oahu/honolulu area or just to sit around in the airport?

  1. I would not spend the time on Oahu, even though your plane ticket and reservation show you having a lay over.
If your arriving in day time hours on a mainland flight.
Just go to the ticket counter of airline your flying between the island on. And the chance is very very good you well be able to take early flight with out paying for ticket change,
Aloha Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines are very good out helping you to get to the (outer islands).
Reason most airlines but the long a lay over? To be sure your bags get transfer over to the other flight.

I would not do anything on Oahu, you get off your flight from mainland and can go direct to the inter island terminal with out having to go out and come back through security.
Just catch the WIKI WIKI bus at gate where you get off and it well drop you at inter island.

  2. Id get a tourist guide but reallys its better to stay on the airport premises, 4 hours is not that long really. You coudl go in the spectators lounge ! and have some food, play space invaders or something! or go online if they have the internet in there.
  3. How exciting! Unfortunately, 4 hours isn't that long, considering it may take 20 minutes to get off the plane, more time to find your way out, get a cab, etc. And although Oahu is a nice island, and it being the main island, having to deal with traffic would also consume time. So, I don't know if risking your flight is really worth it? Also depending on when your layover is, during rush hour, or when shops and businesses are closed. Just some things to think about. Good luck though and have a great vacation!
  4. Visit the link in my sources, it gives you links to several hotspots in Oahu that you may be interested in, such as Byodo-in Temple Canoes, Foster Botanical Gardens, Ford Island, Manoa Falls, Sandy Beach, etc. You may want to consider asking some locals or some other tourists, or hiring a tour guide. And see if there are any free brochures at the airport. Also, remember that having fun is all about your attitude, so you should try to have a good time there. Lastly, if you can't really find any place of interest, just enjoy the scenery; how often in life will you get to see that? =^^=
